Satendra Singh Biography

The Story of My Life
Brief History – Achievements –My Self

I was born as a normal child in a small village of district Bhind (Madhya Pradesh) in 1987. Unfortunately after a fort night of my birth, I suffered from severe diarrhoea and due to improper medical treatment, nerves of both legs contracted and consequently, I developed 60% permanent disability in both the legs. My disability brought a new challenge for my parents besides their struggle for two square meals, yet, they brought me up with special care by whatever resources they could afford; somehow provided me with primary education in the village along with the priceless moral values.

I developed a keen interest for swimming during my schooling. I picked up swimming in a local river and enjoyed for hours. Gradually, it become a part of my daily routine to swim after my school. Despite discouragement from fellow villagers my determination and dedication for swimming grew higher and I decided to find opportunities in swimming along with studies. Some the village people supported my decision when I emerged as a good swimmer, saving the life of a 12 year. old child from drowning.

I did my schooling in tough financial situation and came to Gwalior for graduation and post – graduation. This was the turning point in my life, when I met Professor Dr. V.K. Dabas (H.O.D.) Swimming Department, Laxmibai National Institute Education Physical Gwalior for helping and training me for National Level Paralympic swimming. I had tough training under the esteemed guidance of Dr. Dabas for one complete year and then participated in my first National Level Competition (X-National Paralympics Swimming Championship, 2009) held at Kolkatta and where I won a Bronze Medal in Free Style among 400 swimmers across the country. With this medal my journey of swimming began which continues till date and now I am an International level swimmer. Dr. Dabas is still helping me and appreciated my achievement in Canada America Para – International Swimming Championship held at Gatineau, Canada.
The best part of my life is that I never compromised with my education and studies. I have completed Masters Degree in History along with Diploma in Computers and Tally.

To develop my skills in today’s technologically advanced world, I approached Shri P.Narahari, the then Collecter (District Magistrate) Gwalior, who is dedicated to the persons with disability and other weaker sections of the society. He has been a continuous help to me. He also provided me a computer and assured for other such help in future. I successfully completed my Diploma in Computer Application Examination in 2011.

I have received the highest Sports Award of M.P. State, THE VIKRAM AWARD conferred by Honorable Shri Shivraj Singh Chauhan Chief Minister at Bhopal on 23-12-2014.

My recent achievements include my participation in Australia where I won one Gold medal in three different categories of Swimming, NSW 2017 State Open Championship Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Center Australia where I represented INDIA and felt immensely proud. And I have completed sea swimming of 33 k.m. in Arabian ocean Mumbai on 04 may 2017.

In Jun 2018, I crossed the English Channel as part of 4 member para swimming team from India. Preparation for this was initiated 1 year back under the able guidance of Mr Rohan More (India’s first Ocean 7 swimmer and recipient of Tensing Norgay adventure award from President of India). I am training currently to swim the English Channel solo in August 2018.

I can say that I am a role model & inspiration for Society and Persons with Disability, as I have not only made myself financially secured by getting a job (Commercial tax dept, MP Govt), but also achieved success in the field of sports which was once a mere dream and was never a cake walk. I have won laurels for the country. Being a true son of soil, I feel that every “differently abled person” has a potential and can bring pride to the country. This will be the essence of my existence.

I am able to say that I am quite lucky. That God has planned things for me and took my care at every step. I believe that the world is full of good and honest people with potential. Thus I feel if a person is motivated then he can definitely take an initiative and make things to the community, just like I want to be a representative and a motivator for all weak and Persons with Disability of my Nation

Respectful Regards
